Lily Allen - Lily Allen releases unofficial World Cup song for free

Lily Allen has made her unofficial World Cup anthem 'Bass Like Home' available as a free download.

The 29-year-old pop star recorded the song to support the England team as they try and win the international soccer tournament which kicks off in Brazil today (12.06.14).

Lily co-wrote the song with Kid Harpoon - who also produced the track - and it contains lyrics which reference English icons, such as retired soccer player Paul 'Gazza' Gascoigne, and British institutions.

Lines include: ''Who gave you Shakespeare? Who gave you melons? We gave you Gazza, twisted your melons.

''God Save The Queen with a pint of lager. I've been around, there's no where I'd rather be.

''Rule Britannia, Britannia rules the waves. We've been doing this since way back in the day. (sic)''

Lily announced the release of her track on her Twitter page with a post accompanied by a photo of Gazza celebrating scoring a goal at the 1996 European Championships in England along with then-teammate Teddy Sheringham.

She tweeted: ''To celebrate a month of Football and Englishness here's Bass Like Home as a free download...''

Lily will follow up the surprise release with the next cut from her album 'Sheezus'. She brings out single 'URL Badman' on July 13.

'Bass Like Home' can be downloaded at https://form.warnerartists.com/html/lilyallen/basslikehomedld/ and can be listened to on YouTube.

The singer is following in her actor dad Keith Allen's footsteps by releasing a World Cup song.

Keith released 'Vindaloo' under the band name Fat Les as a fans' anthem ahead of the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France.

The music was penned by Blur bassist Alex James while Allen wrote the lyrics and the video was a parody of The Verve's 'Bitter Sweet Symphony' which featured a young Lily and artist Damien Hirst among others.
