Leonard Nimoy: 'Emmy Honour Is Perfect Retirement Present'

Leonard Nimoy has branded his honorary Emmy Award the perfect end to his acting career after previously scoring four nominations and failing to win.

The Star Trek legend will next month (Jun14) receive a special prize at his hometown branch of the National Academy of Television Arts and Science, the organisation behind the Emmys, for his long-running Tv career.

Nimoy, who has retired from acting in recent years, will make what is likely to be his last ever stage appearance in his native Boston, Massachusetts this weekend (24-25May14) by narrating a production for the Boston Pops orchestra.

The final stage show comes just weeks before he receives the Emmy honour on 7 June (14) and Nimoy is convinced the trophy is the perfect parting gift.

He tells the Boston Herald, "It will give me a sense of closure. They give the award for an extended body of work and the durability and scope of that work, so I really am honoured. I've been nominated (four) times and I've never held an Emmy in my hands so I'm looking forward to that at age 83."
