Kylie Minogue - Kylie Minogue says big changes caused break-up

Picture:

Kylie Minogue says professional changes ''had something to do with'' her split from Andres Velencoso.

The 'I Should Be So Lucky' hitmaker broke up with the Spanish model in October after five years together, but she thinks huge shifts in her career meant they both realised she wanted ''separation ... from the old ways''.

Speaking to the Daily Mail Weekend magazine, she said: ''After having the same manager, an Australian, for 25 years, I got new management in LA. Americans work very differently to Brits and Australians, so it was like trying to learn a new language.

''Then my assistant, who'd been with me for 12 years, moved back to Australia. So I basically floundering around on my own, trying to keep my relationship going.

''[Andres] was very supportive throughout that, kind of acknowledging that I wanted a separation - not from him but from the old ways that I had. I'm sure that had something to do with our break-up.''

The split has given Kylie experiences she never had before - including spending New Year's Eve home alone.

She admitted: ''I've never done that before. I felt, 'No, I don't want to go anywhere. I really don't want to feel like I've got to go to a party because that's what I'm supposed to do.' ''

Ariana, Zooey, J-Lo, Miley! When Actresses Become Songstresses 4306712 News

There seems to be a special musical buzz in the entertainment business at the moment reserved for screen actresses who are wanting to spread their wings in their career - and maybe earn some more money too. Whether it's Nickelodeon star Ariana Grande blowing everyone away with her stunning vocal range as she gears up to release her second album this summer, or indie favourite Jenny Lewis becoming ever more successful with her solo singing career after a good three years fronting a band, it appears that some actresses just can't resist testing their pipes in the recording studio. Even Hollywood sensation Scarlett Johansson dipped her toes in musical waters back in 2008 with her well-praised debut 'Anywhere I Lay My Head'.

While we're half expecting Keira Knightley to release a record any day now after singing on her latest drama 'Begin Again', we look at the film world's biggest female musical successes.

Jenny Lewis promoJenny Lewis: Singer-songwriter Jenny Lewis this week released Voyager, her critically acclaimed third studio album. Although best known for her time fronting indie favourites, Rilo Kiley, music wasn't actually Lewis's first career choice, instead the Vegas native was intially known as an actress. Her early showbiz experience mainly consisted of TV roles, with small parts in the likes of 'Baywatch', 'Brooklyn Bridge' and 'The New Twilight Zone' in the 80s and early 90s as well as film stints on 'Troop Beverly Hills' and 'The Wizard'. Her last major acting venture came with 1995's black and white drama 'Don's Plum' alongside Leonardo DiCaprio and Tobey Maguire before she formed Rilo Kiley with then-boyfriend Blake Sennett.

Jennifer Lopez promoJennifer Lopez: The Jenny from the block, who would eventually become J-Lo, actually started her showbiz career as a dancer, on comedy series ‘In Living Colour’. Lopez’s dancing skills were impressive enough to land her a job touring with Janet Jackson in 1993, but she declined instead deciding to give acting a shot. Lopez’s early acting career included small roles in films such as My Family and Money Train, before she landed her big break, starring as tragic pop star Selena in the 1997 biopic. A year later she starred alongside George Clooney in thriller Out of Sight. Lopez then set about conquering the music world in 1999 with the release of her debut album On the 6 and she hasn't looked back since. Although Lopez still occasionally acts, she is arguably best known now for her musical talents which she displayed most recently with new album 'A.K.A.', released in June and once again landing her a space in the US chart's top 10.

Miley Cyrus promoMiley Cyrus: Miley might have come from a musical family, (well Billy Ray Cyrus is her father), but the famous twerker actually started out as an actress. Cyrus's first acting role came on medical drama 'Doc', where she acted alongside her father in three episodes, she also had a small role in Tim Burton's Big Fish. But Miley's big break came in 2006 when she starred in Disney series' Hannah Montana'. In the show Cyrus played a normal girl who moonlighted as a pop star, a role which would help her transition into the music business. Miley's first musical release was the soundtrack to Hannah Montana's first season, but Cyrus quickly became regarded as a singer in her own right and she released her first album a year later. Nowadays Hannah Montana is long over and Miley Cyrus has become a household name, leaving her Disney alter-ego well and truly behind. While she might've followed in the footsteps of Hilary Duff, who starred in Disney Channel's 'Lizzie McGuire', it seems Miley has encouraged plenty of other teen TV stars in their ambitions with 'Wizards of Waverly Place' actress Selena Gomez kicking off her music career in 2009 and 'Camp Rock''s Demi Lovato also making her mark around the same time. Even Lindsay Lohan hit the studio several years before that. It seems Disney is the new platform for broadening ambitions.

Kylie Minogue performingKylie Minogue: It’s easy to forget that Kylie Minogue wasn't always the pint-sized queen of pop. Way back in the mid 1980s, before Pete Waterman got hold of her, Kylie was an actress starring in Australia’s biggest soap opera, 'Neighbours'. Minogue played the role of Charlene, a school girl turned mechanic whose love interest was another future pop star, Jason Donovan. After performing covers of ‘I Got You Babe’ and ‘The Loco-motion’ during a charity event in 1987, Minogue was offered a recording contract with Mushroom Records. A year later Kylie’s musical career was blossoming both at home and in the UK and she made the decision to say goodbye to acting. Since then the now 46 year old has sold over 70 million records worldwide and has become a member of Australian Recording Industry Association Hall of Fame.

Ariana Grande promoAriana Grande: Ariana Grande might be just 21 years old but she’s a;ready had sucres as both an actress and singer. Her first big break break came when she was cast as Cat Valentine in Nickelodeon series 'Victorious' in 2011. She then landed her own spin off series, Sam and Cat alongside ‘iCarly’ star Jennette McCurdy, which latest for just one season. However by the time she’d landed her own sitcom, Grande had also made the move into music. She released her debut album Yours Truly in 2013 to critical acclaim, but Ariana would become a fully fledged pop star this summer with the success of single 'Problem' from her upcoming second album. Becoming one of the summer's biggest hits, 'Problem' reached number one on the UK Singles Chart and number two on the Bllboard Hot 100.

Zooey Deschanel promoZooey Deschanel: Given how her career has evolved, it’s fitting that Zooey Deschanel first came to our attention after her role in Almost Famous, a movie about music. Since finding fame as an actress, the future ‘New Girl’ couldn't help showing off her vocal talents wherever possible, in films such as Elf and 500 Days of Summer. But in 2007 Zooey officially made the move into music when she formed the band She & Him with musician M.Ward. So far the indie duo have released four albums, including 2011’s festive offering, A Very She & Him Christmas. Last month the duo hit the big time when they signed a new record deal with major label Columbia Records, ahead of their fifth album’s release later this year.

Juliette Lewis promoJuliette Lewis: Probably not the first woman who's going to pop into your head when you think of actresses turned singers but, after her Academy Award nomination following her role in Martin Scorsese's 'Cape Fear' remake back in 1991, it seemed a screen career just wasn't enough for budding rocker Juliette Lewis. After further blockbusters such as 'Natural Born Killers', 'From Dusk till Dawn', 'The Evening Star' and 'Starsky & Hutch', she released her debut album '...Like a Bolt of Lightning' in 2004 alongside her band Juliette and the Licks. She proceeded to release two more over the next consecutive years and made her last record, 'Terra Incognita', in 2009. She's back to acting now, but we wouldn't be disappointed to see another musical venture.

Taylor Momsen promoTaylor Momsen: Another actress who invoked her inner rock goddess was 'Gossip Girl''s Taylor Momsen, whose early acting role in 2000's 'Dr. Seuss' How the Grinch Stole Christmas' would never have suggested a heavily eyelinered and scantily clad future. Her success as the lead singer in The Pretty Reckless has been phenomenal as of late, with her March 2014 album 'Going to Hell' reaching the top 5 in the US album chart - quite a remarkable progression since they started out in 2010. However, we are still missing her face on our TV screens and awaiting at least a temporary screen comeback.

'20,000 Days On Earth': Trailer Released For Intriguing Nick Cave Docu-Drama 4286369 News

20,000 Days On Earth: no it's not a gun-totin' new action movie about an alien invasion, it's a drama about a day in the life of Nick Cave. The pseudo-documentary supposedly charts the rocker's 20,000th day on Earth.

The 56 year-old Australian musician narrates the film, which features scenes of him writing on a typewriter, going to therapy, spending time with Kylie Minogue and Ray Winstone, having food with fellow Aussie musician Warren Ellis, and hanging out with his son watching Scarface.

Anyone looking for a humdrum, fly-on-the-wall experience of a typical Cave day will be disappointed: the film does examine his songwriting process, live show performances and various celebrity friendships but it's creative in its narration, echoing Cave's own idiosyncracies.

"While the doc should prove essential for Nick Cave fans, it should be inspiring for those interested in the creative process or anyone searching for their muse," IndieWire's Cory Everett wrote after 20,000 Days premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.

Directed by Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard, 20,000 Days documents the Bad Seeds/Grinderman frontman's life using fictionalize but mostly unscripted scenes of Cave's daily activities.

Watch the '20,000 Days On Earth' trailer.

"Nick would have never gone for a straightforward rock-doc," co-director Iain Forsyth told The New York Times. "We decided to go in a direction that combined reality with fantasy as seamlessly as possible - which, if you think about it, isn't too far from the transaction between a rock star and his fans."

"People want desperately to enter the world Nick creates in his songs. You can look around when the Bad Seeds are playing and see precisely which version of Nick - the junkie, the outlaw, the lover - each person in the crowd wants to be."

More: Nick Cave features in Contact Music's top albums of 2013.

20,000 Days on Earth will be released in the UK on the 19th September but a launch event at London's Barbican on the 17th September will also be broadcast to 150 participating UK theaters and select screenings will accompany dates on the Bad Seeds' current tour.

In true Nick Cave style, the lines between real-life and fiction are blurred in a drama documentary based on a supposed 24 hours in the life of this seminal Australian rocker. We see how his creative impulses are brought to life and how he feels transformed during his highly exciting stage performances.

Cave has had a fulfilling creative career outside of the band too, having authored several books and composed several film scores - including this one.

'20,000 Days On Earth' has been artistically directed by film collaborators Iain Forsyth and Jane Pollard ('Do You Love Me Like I Love You', 'Run for Me'). It's evocative presmise won it the FIPRESCI Prize at the Istanbul International Film Festival and two awards for directing and editing at Sundance. Minogue returned to the podium after her performance to present the night's top honour, the Gold Logie for Most Popular Personality on Tv, to small screen veteran Scott Cam.

Other big winners on the night included Elizabeth Moss' crime drama Top of the Lake, which was named Most Outstanding Mini-series Or Telemovie, and Redfern Now, which landed Most Outstanding Drama Series.

Newlywed actress Asher Keddie topped off a sensational month by collecting two Silver Logies, for Most Outstanding Actress and Most Popular Actress, just weeks after she married her artist boyfriend in Fiji.

Following the show, Minogue faced a backlash on Twitter.com from fans who claimed the pop star had mimed her performance of her new single I Was Gonna Cancel, but the singer hit back at the criticism by insisting she was singing live.

She writes in a post on the social networking website, "Yes, we did something different and Yes, I was singing live."

Kylie Minogue Blames Voice Exit on Tour Times 4152270 News

The Voice may have been given a popularity boost via a certain Australian popstar, but it’ll have to source a new famous face for next season as Kylie Minogue has confirmed she won’t be returning as judge.

The diminutive singer blamed her tour schedule, tweeting: "#Lovers, due to timing of my tour I won't be back next season for The Voice UK. Thanks to all who supported! Hope to see you on my KMO tour!"

She added on Facebook, "Hi Lovers, thanks to all of you for your incredible support throughout this past season of The Voice UK. I'm sad to say that, due to the timing of my European tour, I won't be back for Season 4. I absolutely loved my time on the show, and I'll miss all of the incredible people who were a part of my experience. I hope to see you all on my Kiss Me Once tour and wish continued success to everyone at The Voice! Love, Kylie."

The Voice UK’s executive producer Moira Ross has paid tribute to Minogue, saying that she "brought her own very special magic" to the show. "We have loved having her on the show," Ross added. "We wish her well for her tour and hope to welcome her back in the future."

Now, The Voice faces a tough task once more to keep the rest of their team together, with Minogue's fellow panellists Tom Jones, Ricky Wilson and will.i.am not confirmed to return for the fourth series next year. Speculation will be rife as to who will replace Kylie, but you can be sure the candidate will be female – unless one of the existing male members follows suit and leaves the show.

Kylie Minogue Quits 'The Voice', Leaving BBC In A Pickle 4151247 News

Signing up Kylie Minogue for The Voice was the BBC's way of proving that this singing contest - with its spinning chairs and blind auditions - could pack as much of a punch as The X-Factor, despite losing Danny O'Donoghue and Jessie J following its second season. The Australian was certainly a marquee signing, and alongside Tom Jones and Will.i.am (and the fella from Kaiser Chiefs), the BBC show had a judging line-up that could rival that of its ITV rival.

Now, The Voice executives are on the hunt for another big name  to fill the gap left by Minogue, who has quit the show after just one season to focus on her live touring.

"Due to timing of my tour I won't be back next season for The Voice UK," she wrote on Twitter. "Thanks to all who supported!"

"I absolutely loved my time on the show, and I'll miss all of the incredible people who were a part of my experience," the singer said.

Jermaine Jackman was crowned the winner of this year's series - the first victor of the BBC show that would probably have conquered all on The X-Factor too.

Jermaine Jackman Will.i.am The VoiceWill Will.i.am remain on the Voice without Kylie?

The problem for the BBC is not just replacing Minogue, but convincing Will.i.am - one of the biggest stars in the world - that a fourth season is worth his time. Kaiser Chiefs singer Ricky Wilson had already hinted that he would only stay should Minogue sign on the dotted line, though his latest album's entry at No.1 on the charts will probably be enough to persuade him to stay.

Although the latest season enjoyed a ratings spike during the auditions stages, the live final was the least successful yet. An average audience of 6.6 million tuned in for the show, down from 7.24 million 2012 and 7.1 million the year before.

Moira Ross, executive producer at production company Wall To Wall, said: "Kylie has brought her own very special magic to The Voice UK and we have loved having her on the show.

"We wish her well for her tour and hope to welcome her back in the future."

The Voice has been commissioned for another two seasons. The X-Factor returns this summer with Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole back on the judging panel following the departure of Gary Barlow and Nicole Scherzinger.
