Kevin Drew - Kevin Drew Forced To Postpone New York Gig Over Visa Problems
Canadian rocker Kevin Drew has been forced to pull out of a string of promotional appearances in the U.S. this week (begs31Mar14) after encountering issues with his work visa.
The Broken Social Scene frontman was booked to perform his first gig at the Bowery Ballroom in New York on Thursday (03Apr14), but he reached out to fans online on Wednesday (02Apr14) evening to reveal that immigration problems had derailed his plans and the show would have to be rescheduled.
As a result of the unexpected complications, Drew has also had to scrap a number of other engagements to promote his new solo album, Darlings.
In a message to fans on his website, he writes, "I'm not sure why this is happening...really, truly.
"Twelve years of doing visas and coming down to America with hopeful fists and I have never had a problem like this one. I've been told that red tape and bureaucracy are part of the situation, but it does not do any justice to the idea of having to cancel a whole week of radio sessions, Tv appearances and a live show love fest. We submitted in time and we did everything that we needed to do."
Drew goes on to bemoan the lengthy and "unpredictable" immigration process, insisting it makes it "very difficult to keep a career going in the Us" and he warns other non-U.S. artists to plan well ahead to avoid experiencing the same visa troubles he has had.
Ending the note with an apology, he adds, "All I can do is apologize to the ones who were coming out to the show, the ones who were having us on their shows and hopefully reschedule everything. This is out of our control... but they can't control our hearts. We own our hearts. I look forward to hopefully making them all (proud) whenever this whole thing gets cleared up. See you soon."
It is not yet known if Drew's other U.S. concerts with singer Feist in Massachusetts, New York and New Hampshire next week (begs07Apr14) will be affected by the work visa delay.
