Keith Richards is writing a children's book.

The Rolling Stones legend has teamed up with his daughter Theodora to create a picture book 'Gus and Me: The Story of My Granddad and My First Guitar', which will be based on his own life.

The story is about the 70-year-old guitarist's grandfather Theodore Augustus Dupree - also known as Gus - who played in a jazz big band and introduced Keith to the world of music.

Keith said: ''I have just become a grandfather for the fifth time, so I know what I'm talking about. The bond, the special bond, between kids and grandparents is unique and should be treasured.

''This is a story of one of those magical moments. May I be as great a grandfather as Gus was to me.''

Theodora, 28, who is named after Gus, will be illustrating the book inspired by photographs of Keith's childhood.

She said: ''When I found out they wanted me to be a part of this project, my immediate instinct was to say yes, and I am so happy I did. To be able to explore my father's relationship with his grandfather was a gift in itself.''

The picture story is being published by Little, Brown Book Group and is set for release on September 9.
