Katy Perry - Katy Perry's Dark Horse Music Video Edited
The video for Katy Perry's single Dark Horse has been edited after it was branded "blasphemous" by members of the Muslim community.
The Roar hitmaker plays an Egyptian queen with the power to turn people to sand in the promo clip, but a number of Muslims were outraged to see her disintegrating a male subject wearing a pendant baring the word Allah (God) in Arabic, which is also turned to sand.
Members of the Islamic community branded the clip "blasphemous" and a petition was launched on Change.org calling for the video to be removed from YouTube.com, claiming the name of God was used in an "irrelevant and distasteful manner."
The petition garnered more than 65,000 signatures and the pendant has now been digitally removed from the video, although it is unclear whether the alteration was made by YouTube.com bosses or at the request of the singer or her record label.
Shazad Iqbal, the creator of the petition, has revealed he is "thrilled" with the outcome, writing in a post on Change.org, "The name of Allah has been removed from the Dark Horse video - we couldn't have done it without everyone's support so I thank each and every one of you deeply, our voices have been heard."
