Serge Pizzorno - Kasabian set for biggest ever homecoming gig

Kasabian are planning their biggest ever hometown show.

The 'Fire' hitmakers will play to 35,000 at Leicester's Victoria Park on June 21 next year to mark their 10 years in the music industry - but protests from a nearby church prevented them doing a second show at the venue.

Guitarist Serge Pizzorno told the Daily Star: ''The vicar protested, but I understand that.

''We're a juggernaut coming to town and that's frightening to a lot of people. I respect that.''

Despite the best efforts of their local church, singer Tom Meighan said the show will be a ''moment in history''.

He said: ''It's going to change people's lives, the same as me and Serge seeing Oasis did when we were 15.''

The eagerly-anticipated gig marks a decade since the band released their self-titled debut album and there will be a new record released to coincide with the event - the follow-up to their 2011 album 'Velociraptor!'

Tom and his band mates Serge, Chris Edwards and Ian Matthews insist they are ''reborn'' and starting to sound like a band again after a break this year.

Serge, 32, added: ''The sound that we always wanted to create is now happening.

''When we return, we want people to think, 'Thank God those boys are back. Not, 'Oh no, not them again'.

''Celebrating the anniversary in Leicester is massive and the show will help focus on the album.''

Tom, 32, has been working with Leicester rapper Whatty Whatnot during their break.

He said: ''We needed a break from each other, to have family time, but I can't do nothing.

''I made the tracks with Whatty to stay busy and keep happy. I couldn't be round Serge's all the time like I usually do.''

The band will headline Victoria Park in the city on June 21. Tickets, priced at £39.50, go on sale on Friday at 9am. Visit livenation.co.uk to book.
