Justin Bieber has bought a new puppy.

The 19-year-old pop star has been back in his home country of Canada for the Christmas holidays and while in Stratford, Ontario, he stopped by local pet store, Ruffin's Pet Centre, to get a dog.

Justin, who was accompanied by his family, fell in love with a seven-week-old American bulldog pup and decided that was the canine companion he wanted, according to E! News.

The 'Heartbreaker' singer's visit to Ruffin's - a store where he and his family have purchased pets before, according to staff - attracted the attention of fans and he had to sneak out of the backdoor with the cute white and brown pooch.

Justin's father Jeremy Bieber posted a picture of himself with the adorable mutt on Twitter along with the caption ''newest Bieber''.

Jeremy - who is separated from Justin's mother Pattie Mallette - has also offered his superstar fans the chance to name the dog.

Tweeting from his personal account, he wrote: ''So were gona let one lucky #belieber name @justinbieber s new puppy.... Follow and find out how it can be you (sic)''

Justin - who has just released his concert film biopic 'Justin Bieber's Believe' - has taken a break over the festive season and been enjoying spending some quality time with his family back in Ontario.

Earlier this week, he tweeted: ''Blessed to spend Christmas with my family. Hope everyone around the world had a blessed Christmas as well. Much love.''
