Jon Voight - Jon Voight Blasts Penelope Cruz And Javier Bardem For Middle East Conflict Letter

Actor Jon Voight has blasted Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem for signing an open letter denouncing Israeli military action in Gaza.

The married couple and its director pal, Pedro Almodovar, added their names to the missive, which hit headlines earlier this week (29Jul14).

Following the release of the letter, Cruz and Bardem clarified their positions on the ongoing violence in the Middle East, insisting they are only hoping for peace on both sides of the Israel/Palestine conflict.

However, Angelina Jolie's dad has now slammed the Spanish actors in his own open letter for The Hollywood Reporter.

In the note, he writes, "My name is Jon Voight and I am more than angry, I am heartsick that people like Penelope Cruz and Javier Bardem could incite anti-Semitism all over the world and are oblivious to the damage they have caused...

"After years of trying to make peace, the wars they had to fight, being attacked by their enemies, and still being attacked, and finally after years of running into bomb shelters and having hundreds of civilians killed by suicide bombers, civilians being killed in their sleep, stabbed to pieces, finding enough is enough and finally retaliating, instead of my peers sticking up for the only democratic country in that region, they go and take out poison letters against them..."

He continues, "I am asking all my peers who signed that poison letter against Israel to examine their motives. Can you take back the fire of anti-Semitism that is raging all over the world now? You have been able to become famous and have all your monetary gains because you are in a democratic country: America. Do you think you would have been able to accomplish this in Iran, Syria, Lebanon, et cetera?

"You had a great responsibility to use your celebrity for good. Instead, you have defamed the only democratic country of goodwill in the Middle East: Israel. You should hang your heads in shame. You should all come forth with deep regrets for what you did, and ask forgiveness from the suffering people in Israel."

The trio's original letter, headlined Comunicado de la Cultura Contra el Genocidio Palestino, was circulated among Spanish media outlets and suggested Israel's actions were nothing short of a "genocide", and urged European Union officials to condemn "the bombing by land, sea and air against the Palestinian civilian population in the Gaza Strip".

I'm sorry but I have to agree with Penelope, Javier and Pedro. Although I respect you as an actor you have been closing your eyes for the real problem like so many others. Even Mr.Ban Ki-moon has now been showing his anger about the bombing with as result innocent women and children were sent to a horrible death! Every time Mr. Nethannayu is in charge of Israel, yes, this isn't his first time he's a prime minister or defense minister you always have the same problem! He ignores the real issue wich has been there like forever since the founding of the independent state of Palestine. He just can't except the existance of a free state of Palestine! They've built a 6 mtr high wall around it, control all what comes in and goes out and still wonders why the Palestinians aren't happy with the way they have to live their lives! They don't have any chance to develope an independent economy without the approval of Isreal! Now he tells them to leave their houses in the north of Gaza and go to another part and when they do he starts bombing that part as well with the lame excuse that Hamas is housing citizens in places where they also have their bombs! If you push them into a corner it is unavoidable that this will be the case but this is not the fault of innocent citizens! There's a big difference betwween Hamas soldiers and citizens. And of course we get some peace talks within some weeks, maybe even months, and I already see the photo's taken in the White House garden where he's (Nethannayu) shaking hands with Mr.Obama, Mr.Kerry and some Palestinian minister but he will not rest as long he's in charge of Israel till every Palestinian citizen has been killed. He says one thing and does the other. Wich reminds me of another leader who has the same policy: Mr.Poetin! If the Democrats and Republicans in the U.S. were not so desperate depending on getting the votes and money for their election campagne of the Jewish part of the U.S. voters they probably had taken much sooner a more ferm point of view into this matter. To make myself clear, I have nothing against Jews or any religion! But this problem is not gonna get solved if Israel (read likud party) is holding on to its current point of view and actually not is willing to accept any U.N resolution that has been been approved by the U.N. council the last 20 years but they've totally ignored! The only thing that will end this war is for Isreal to give the Paestinians the right and the chance to create their own economy and live their lives in piece. When they have peace Israel will have it too. But as long as you take this essential right away or make it impossible for them you can't expect they sit and watch and do nothing! They're are several U.N. solutions wich say they have these rights but if Israel not recognize them as a indepedent countrie their will be no peace, not in a million years! Do my regards to Angela, saw her last month in London (on tv!) with her campagne against rape and I have great respect for her concern in this matter!
