Joan Rivers - Joan Rivers criticises Lena Dunham

Joan Rivers has blasted Lena Dunham for embracing her curves.

The 'Fashion Police' host accused the 'Girls' creator and star of ''sending a message out to people that it's OK to stay fat and get diabetes'' by refusing to conform to Hollywood's super skinny stereotype.

Speaking to Howard Stern on his Sirius FM radio show, the 80-year-old comedienne advised the 27-year-old Golden Globe-winning star: ''Don't let them laugh at you physically. I'm saying if you look the way you look Lena, that's fine and you're funny, but don't say it's OK that other girls look like this, tell them to try and look better.''

Joan also begged the actress to let her style her after she questioned Lena's choice of clothing in relation to her body type, asking: ''How could she wear dresses above the knee?''

The controversial star, who caused outrage when she criticised Spanish actress Elsa Pataky's figure after she attended the Oscars while heavily pregnant with her newborn twin boys earlier this month, dismissed Howard when he came to Lena's defence, saying: ''I think the thing we love about her is that she doesn't give a s***. She did a whole ('Girls') episode in a bikini. It was the funniest f**king thing I ever saw.''

She replied: ''Oh, every woman gives a s***.''

Earlier this year, Lena admitted that she had been called ''fat and hideous'' but had finally reach a point where she ''radicalised'' her relationship with her ''own body in order to accept it.''

Is Joan Rivers Right on the Israel-Gaza Conflict? 4302467 News

Joan Rivers attacked what she believes to be the Western media's misrepresentation of the Israel-Gaza conflict. The actress and comedian - never shy to air her views on current affairs - used a New York-New Jersey analogy to highlight her thoughts on the crisis in the Middle East.

Joan RiversJoan Rivers has weighed into the Israel-Gaza debate

"Let me tell you, if New Jersey were firing rockets into New York, we would wipe them out," she told TMZ.

"If we heard they were digging tunnels from New Jersey to New York, we would get rid of Jersey."

She said: "You cannot throw rockets and expect people not to defend themselves."

Quizzed on the deaths of around 800 Palestinian civilians so far, Rivers pointed the finger at those firing rockets.

"I'm sorry, don't you dare put weapon stashes in private homes and then we say get out - of course we're going to do it."

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has accused Hamas of using human shields to gather dead Palestinians for their cause, though Rivers wasn't interested in speculating on who started the conflict.

"I don't care. They started it.You're all insane. They started it! What are you all saying? They started it!"

The comedian specifically singled out the BBC and CNN for criticism, saying that they should be "ashamed" of their coverage.

David Letterman Jokingly Walks Out On Joan Rivers During 'Late Show' 4278146 News

Joan Rivers finally got a piece of her on medicine.

David Letterman showed the comedienne what it is like dealing with a "diva."

Rivers appeared on the 'Late Show' to promote her new book 'Diary of a Mad Diva,' but during the interview the 67 year-old host suddenly stood up, took off his jacket and walked out.

"So, where are ya from? I'll just take over! I'll talk to me!" Rivers said when Letterman didn't return.

But why?

Several days earlier, the 81 year-old actress made headlines for storming out of a CNN interview after the anchor, Fredricka Whitfield, called Rivers out on her "mean" comments about celebrities' clothing on 'Fashion Police,' an E! reality show she hosts.

Obviously Rivers didn't appreciate this and never returned, but Whitfield later said she had "kept her microphone on and she continued to talk and drop some very unflattering four letter words."

While talking with Letterman, the controversial star described Whitfield as being "very judgmental, very nasty, very opinionated, very negative," before jokingly stating "It was like my wedding night, ya know?"

She also adamantly denied that the incident was just one big "publicity stunt to promote the book."

The Grammy Award-winner addressed the incident in a statement through her publicist to The Hollywood Reporter shortly after the incident.

"The CNN interviewer was a news reporter and not an entertainment reporter," she wrote. "She did not seem to understand we were talking about a comedy book and not the transcripts from the Nuremberg Trial. Every question was an accusatory one designed to put me on the defensive. She seemed to miss the point that Diary of a Mad Diva is simply a very funny book, and as Winston Churchill said, if you can make one person laugh, even for a minute, it's like giving them a little vacation."

‘Diary of A Mad Diva’: Joan Rivers Walks Out Of ‘Negative’ CNN Interview 4274114 News

Don’t make Joan Rivers angry. You probably already knew that, but CNN anchor Fredricka Whitfield seemed unaware when she interviewed the veteran comedienne earlier this week.

Joan RiversJoan appeared on CNN earlier this week

In the interview, which aired on Saturday, Rivers' stormed out after objecting to Whitfield’s 'negative' line of questioning, which primarily focused on her often controversial comedic style.

Referring to River’s E! 'Fashion Police' series, which see her critiquing celebrities outfits, Whitfield said it was, “very mean in some ways.” But Rivers quickly cut her off saying, “It’s not mean, it’s not mean, it’s not mean I tell the truth.”

Rivers then went on to say, “I’m sure I say the same things that all your viewers say to their friends sitting next to them on the couch.” Adding, “We’re one of the few shows that says ‘that’s an ugly dress.’ … These ladies make $28 million a picture. You really think that Nicki Minaj cares I didn’t like her dress?”

But Whitfield didn't seem to catch on that Rivers' was genuinely annoyed by her line of questioning and continued to press the comedienne, moving on to ask her if she ever felt there were boundaries when it came to her style of humour. Rivers responded by saying “Life is very tough, and if you can make a joke to make something easier and funny, do it. Done.”

Things then got more heated when Whitfield asked Joan about her decision to wear fur on the cover of her latest book, Diary of A Mad Diva. "You know, this whole interview is becoming a defensive interview," Rivers said. "Are you wearing leather shoes? Then shut up.”

It was the final straw for Rivers, who ended by saying she'd been “making people laugh for 50 years”. She then walked out of the studio after telling Whitfield she was “not the person to interview someone who does humour.” A stunned Whitfield simply responded with, “are we serious?”

Joan Rivers Abruptly Departs CNN Interview After Anchor Questions Her About Animal Rights 4273708 News

We've been so shocked by Joan Rivers' increasingly outlandish antics over the past few years (and well before) that few of us were surprised when she did something as mild as storm off set in a recent interview with CNN.

Joan Rivers
Joan Rivers stormed off set last week in a segment which aired on Saturday (5th July).

The 81-year-old comedian was promoting her new autobiography Diary of a Mad Diva on the news channel when she took umbrage with presenter Fredricka Whitfield in a segment which aired on Saturday (5th July). Rivers believed Whitfield was attacking her and being deliberately "negative".

Whitfield was highly complimentary of Rivers, praising her for long career as comedian, author and television presenter. She mentioned Rivers' presenting of E!'s Fashion Police which Rivers has hosted since 2010. It started to go downhill when Whitfield mentioned how Rivers can be "very mean" when commenting on celebrities' choice of red carpet clothing on the show. It wasn't an entirely astute comment as Rivers is cynical and critical of most things, so why would her take on fashion be any different?

Nevertheless Rivers became defensive and claimed she was merely telling "the truth", in a similar way to how everyday viewers would comment on a star's choice of clothing. Rivers said "I'm sure I say the same things that all your viewers say to their friends sitting next to them on the couch. We're one of the few shows that says 'that's an ugly dress.'" She added stars such as Nicki Minaj, who make "$28 million a picture", were unlikely to care about her opinion.

Whitfield appeared to have bumbled through Rivers' first outburst but things went from bad to worse when the news anchor asked Rivers about being deliberately shocking, citing her decision to wear a fur coat on the front cover of her book. Whitfield, rather sensibly, suggested animal rights activists would be less than impressed with Rivers' choice of coat.

Joan RiversThe news anchor thought Rivers' reaction was part of a comic stunt... It wasn't.

Unfortunately Rivers wasn't best pleased with this challenge and said "This whole interview is becoming a defensive interview." She further defended her decision by claiming the use of leather and eating of meat were akin to wearing fur. Whitfield persevered but Rivers attempted to finish the line of questioning by saying "I don't want to hear this nonsense. Come to me with a paper belt, and I'll talk to you."

When Whitfield didn't get the hint, Rivers declared "I'm going" and prepared herself to storm off camera. Before she left she detailed the reasons for her departure, stating: "All you've done is negative. I've made people laugh for 50 years, I am put on Earth to make people laugh. My book is funny." Bizarrely, Rivers then added "I wear fur that was killed 15 years ago, I work for animal rights."

Whitfield continued to consider Rivers' behaviour a joke and assumed it was a comedic stunt but she had seriously underestimated the diva's determination. Rivers said "Stop it with 'you do this and you're mean'! You are not the one to interview a person who does humor! Sorry!" She stormed off camera and did not return.

Whitfield appeared to be on the verge of laughing and said "Are we serious?" Apparently, as Whitfield revealed after the segment aired, Rivers was as she did not return to the interview. The anchor explained: "I thought she was joking the whole time but, in the end, we wondered was this a stunt? Well Rivers didn't return to the interview but off camera she kept her microphone on and she continued to talk and drop some very unflattering four letter words. So, yes, she was serious."

Kim Kardashian Requested Joan Rivers Be Moved Away From Her At NBC Upfronts? 4200779 News

Will Kim Kardashian ever forgive Joan Rivers for her comments about North West? It appears not, if supposed events at the NBC Upfronts are anything to go by!

Khloe Kardashian
Khloe Kardashian at the NBC Upfronts on Thursday.

Kardashian and Rivers both appeared at the same event, the NBC Upfronts in Los Angeles on Thursday (May 15th). Rivers was allegedly meant to be sat next to Kardashian but was mysteriously moved at the last minute, as Us Weekly reports. Sources claims Kardashian requested 80-year-old Rivers be moved to another seat.

Kardashian appeared at the event alongside her sister, Khloe, but she was certainly not sharing the limelight with a woman who had publically insulted her child if reports are to be believed. A source, apparently at the event, said “Khloe and Kim were seated next to Joan Rivers, but they had them move her.” Another source added “Kim and Khloe both don’t want drama and can’t fake it any more with Joan, so they asked the staff to keep them separate.”

In January of this year, Rivers made some controversial remarks in her typical fashion which Kardashian probably didn’t take too well. Rivers allegedly stated whilst performing at E!: ''That baby [North West] is ugly. I've never seen a six-month-old so desperately in need of a waxing.'' This was not the first time Rivers has mocked the Kardashian Klan as she previously spoofed Kim’s sex tape and has mocked a number of their siblings on stage.

Khloe and Kim KardashianKhloe and Kim Kardashian appeared together at the Upfronts and allegedly asked staff to move Joan Rivers.

However, Kardashian may have turned a blind eye to River’s remark as they recently saw each other at Jimmy Fallon. A source claimed Kardashian did not confront Rivers about her remark and was polite. The source stated Kardashian and Rivers “even took a pic together when Joan asked.”

Whether or not Rivers was truly moved away from the Kardashian sisters can never be known as neither party has addressed the issue and E!’s representative has vehemently denied the rumours. It’s safe to assume Kardashian has bigger things to worry about with her wedding ceremony within the next week and on an entirely different continent. The 33-year-old is all set to marry Kanye West on May 24th. Reports about the location of the wedding remain unconfirmed, it was initially thought the high profile pair would tie the knot in Paris but it seems Florence is another option.

Joan Rivers Said What? Comedienne's Latest Scandal Gets Ariel Castro Kidnapping Victims Involved 4166028 News

People are once again outraged at something Joan Rivers said – what else is new? The 80-year-old comedienne tried to make a joke about the lack of space in her Malibu pad – except for some reason she decided it would be appropriate to make it at the expense of Ariel Castro’s victims. According to Rivers, the three women who were held against their will for a decade and repeatedly raped and abused, “had more space” and “got to live rent-free for more than a decade”. The shock comedienne made the original  inflammatory comment during her appearance on the Today show on Tuesday.

Joan Rivers
Rivers doesn't see what the big deal is.

Then on Wednesday, speaking to TMZ, she dove even deeper into the controversy. “They got to live rent free for more than a decade,” a defiant 80-year-old Rivers told TMZ on Wednesday.

She also talked to the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Wednesday, excusing – note, not apologizing for – the joke. “There is nothing to apologize for. I made a joke. That’s what I do. Calm down. Calm f------ down. I’m a comedienne. They’re free, so let’s move on,” Rivers told the newspaper.

Maybe Rivers should rethink her position, however, since her comment offended the people that matter most in this situation – the victims themselves. Attorneys for two of Castro’s victims, freed May 6, 2013 – Amanda Berry and Gina DeJesus - called the “unfortunate comparison” both “shocking and disappointing."

Joan Rivers
Her excuse? She was just making a joke!

“Our clients are strong, private women who have endured unwanted and often painful media attention for quite some time,” lawyers James Wooley and Heather Kimmel wrote in a statement. “They now have to endure this, which is a new low, and we believe a sincere apology is warranted.”

Rivers, unbending, disagreed in her TMZ interview. “One of them has a book deal. Neither are in a psych ward. They’re OK,” she said, refusing to show any compassion. “I bet you within 3 years one of them will be on ‘Dancing with the Stars.’”

Joan Rivers Says Lena Dunham Promotes Obesity, Urges 'Girls' Star To "Look Better" 4127820 News

Joan Rivers has slammed Lena Dunham for being overweight in a new interview on The Howard Stern Show. The 80 year-old television personality heavily criticised the Girls writer and actress' stance on body image, namely that she doesn't feel the need to conform to the more Hollywood ideals of female body shape. Comedian Rivers is known for her tendency for incendiary comments but in her radio interview with Stern she drove home her distaste for Dunham's image despite the host's attempt to defend the 27 year-old star.

"Let me ask you something. Lena Dunham, who again I think is terrific, how could she wear dresses above the knee?" Rivers asked on Tuesday. "I think the thing we love about her is that she doesn't give a s**t," Stern replied, referring to Dunham's body positive philosophy. "Oh, every woman gives a s**t," Rivers retorted, adding "That's wrong. You are sending a message out saying 'It's okay. Stay fat. Get diabetes. Everybody die. Lose your fingers.'" Stern argued back: "I don't think she's sending a message to anyone other than 'I want to make you laugh.'"

"I love that she's funny and love that she's done well [...] But don't let them laugh at you physically," Rivers continued. "If you look the way you look Lena, and that's fine and you're funny, don't say it's okay that other girls can look like this. Try to look better." When Stern tried to argue Lena's corner again, Rivers brought Stern's model wife, Beth Ostrosky, into the debate. "You didn't pick Lena Dunham to marry," she said.

Rivers also pointed to Dunham's slightly Photoshopped appearance on the cover of Vogue as "hypocrisy," adding "I didn't know it was her." When the hosts laughed at her for being "on fire" on the subject of Dunham, Joan said "I'm on fire over hypocrisy."

Naturally Lena's fans have leapt to the actress' defence on Twitter, shaming Joan Rivers for her remarks but a worrying number of listeners found Rivers' monologue amusing or even truthful. Dunham has always stood by her "zen body philosophy" against a strong media spotlight focussed upon how the Girls star looks. As Stern pointed out, as an actress and writer whose main entertainment goal is to make people laugh, should Lena feel pressured to look a certain way?

Lena Dunham has not publically responded to Joan Rivers' comments.

Ryan Philippe performs striptease 4048980 News

Ryan Philippe performed a striptease at Howard Stern's 60th birthday party last night (31.01.14).

The controversial radio host enjoyed a huge star studded birthday bash in New York, attended by stars including Heidi Klum, Sarah Silverman, Jimmy Kimmel, Robert Downey Jr., Jimmy Fallon, David Letterman, and Joan Rivers, but 'The Lincoln Lawyer' actor stole the show when he took his shirt off and gave Howard's sidekick Robin Quivers a sexy lap dance.

He later tweeted: ''(And I just gave robin a lap dance on stage) (sic)''

Others to perform at the party at the city's Hammerstein Ballroom included musicians Adam Levine, John Mayer, Steven Tyler and Slash, Jon Bon Jovi, Dave Grohl, Jewel, and John Fogerty and comedians including Louis CK and Lena Dunham.

Howard - married to Beth Ostrosky Stern - said he is ready to embrace his 60s, telling People.com: ''I feel great and happy. Being 60 is not a bad thing. I'm in a good place in my life. I have the best job and the perfect wife. I'm a lucky man. And it's an honour to have so many people come and celebrate with me. I could never have imagined any of this.''

Robin - who returned to the show last year after battling cancer - also paid tribute to the host.

She said: ''We're just the closest of friends as well as partners. We have been through everything together and he's just the best. This past year with my cancer, he was so there for me. I couldn't ask for a better friend.''

Joan Rivers Might Be The Only Human Being Who Is Still Not A Fan Of Jennifer Lawrence 4007658 News

As much as it pains us to say it because we frankly prefer to think of Jennifer Lawrence as a magical, peace-bringing unicorn, the actress’ so-called “feud” with Joan Rivers continues. It continues on Rivers’ part anyway. A month after she and Lawrence had it out over the commedienne’s show Fashion Police, which essentially consists of her scrutinizing famous people’s hair, makeup, outfits and bodies for an hour every week, Rivers has issued another scathing comment, directed at the 23-year-old actress.

Jennifer Lawrence, American Hustle Press Conference
Apparently there's still at least one person left, who is not a fan of Lawrence.

Apparently in response to Lawrence’s recent statements on fat shaming in the media, Rivers said for the New York Post: “I love that she's telling everyone how wrong it is to worry about retouching and body image, and meanwhile, she has been touched up more than a choir boy at the Vatican. Look at her posters.”

Joan Rivers, E! Fashion Police Party
Is this the biggest feud of the year? Probably not, but let's pretend for Rivers' sake.

Ignoring the whole Vatican comment (we can all agree she shouldn’t have gone there, right?) Rivers’ statement doesn’t seem to have made much of a dent in JLaw’s universally likable public persona. And how could it, when the Hunger Games star spent Boxing Day visiting sick children at a hospital in her hometown of Louisville, Ky. The question is, with the entire media machine on JLaw's side, will this "feud" even create enough of a stir for Rivers to gain some publicity off of the story?

Jennifer Lawrence, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire Premiere
The public's admiration for Lawrence survived even this dress, so a little snark from Rivers is nothing.
