Jay Z - Jay Z's Barclays Center Is America's Top-grossing Concert Venue
Jay Z's Barclays Center venue in New York City has eclipsed Madison Square Garden to become America's most profitable concert venue.
The rapper owns a percentage in the company which operates the venue and he is co-owner of resident basketball team the Brooklyn Nets. He also played the opening gig there in September (13).
The Brooklyn arena has since hosted some of the world's most famous musicians including the Rolling Stones and Sir Paul MCCartney, as well as Justin Bieber and Rihanna, and new statistics show the Barclays Center raked in $46.9 million (£31.3 million) in concert ticket sales between 1 November (12) and 31 May (13).
The figure puts it ahead of the Big Apple's other famous arena, Manhattan's fabled Madison Square Garden, which scored second place in the list of America's top gig venues with sales of $39.5 million (£26.3 million), according to Billboard.com.
The figures also make the Barclays Center the second highest grossing concert venue in the world, coming in behind London's O2 Arena, which grossed $119 million (£79.3 million) in concert ticket sales over the same time period.
