Michael Arndt - J.J. Abrams to Write Star Wars: Episode VII

Michael Arndt is no longer on board to write 'Star Wars: Episode VII.'

The Oscar-winning scriptwriter's duties will be taken over by the film's director J.J. Abrams in addition to Lawrence Kasdan - who worked on Episodes VI and V - following an announcement from LucasFilms confirming the changes.

The reasons behind the last-minute re-shuffle are still undisclosed, but Lucasfilm's president Kathleen Kennedy reassured fans that Lawrence and J.J. are the right men for the job, in a post written on the official 'Star Wars' website.

He wrote: ''There are very few people who fundamentally understand the way a Star Wars story works like Larry, and it is nothing short of incredible to have him even more deeply involved in its return to the big screen.

''J is of course an incredible storyteller in his own right. Michael Arndt has done a terrific job bringing us to this point and we have an amazing filmmaking and design team in place already prepping for production.''

The new comes amidst reports that Arndt's original script had been scrapped as early as July this year, after rumours J.J. was unimpressed with his efforts leading insiders to believe a completely different movie is being written.
