'The Wolverine' has topped the US weekend box office after collecting $55 million in ticket sales and earning another $86.1 million overseas.

The Fox film, which features Hugh Jackman as the clawed superhero, collected $55 million in ticket sales in North America, according to studio estimates.
The superhero flick earned another $86.1 million overseas, which means the film's takings from the opening week alone surpassed the $120 million it cost to make.
Chris Aronson, Fox's head of domestic distribution, said: ''It's a huge opening for the clawed one. It played equally well from Maine [State of New England] to Maui [Hawaii island].''
It is the sixth film in the 'X-Men' franchise which has now made $1.9 billion worldwide.
Supernatural horror film 'The Conjuring', which stars Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga, slipped into second place taking another $22.1 million.
Meanwhile, comedy 'Despicable Me 2' took third place collecting $16 million. The animation - the sequel to the 2010's 'Despicable Me' - has now made more than $600 million since its release four weeks ago.
Another Fox production, 'Turbo,' nabbed fourth place with $13.3 million and Adam Sandler's comedy 'Grown Ups 2' followed with $11.5 million.
