Gotye - Gotye Forms Political Party

Singer/songwriter Gotye has formed his own political party and is planning to run for office in Australia.

The Somebody That I Used to Know hitmaker, who was born in Belgium but grew up Down Under, has recruited members of his backing band to form the Basics Rock'n'Roll Party (Brrp).

Gotye, real name Wally De Backer, and his pals Kris Schroeder and Tim Heath are planning to run for office in the upcoming Victoria elections on 29 November (14).

Bassist Schroeder tells the Aap, "Politics in this country is treated like it belongs to the elite. We have these career politicians... and they are groomed in to becoming these life-long politicians that have no other life experience... Decisions don't have to be made by these elite, you can just be musicians. We've all got higher education degrees so we're not just musicians, but we haven't come up through any political ideology we just care about certain things like indigenous affairs and education."

The party's policies are based around "innovation, education and Rock 'n' Roll" and they need to have 500 members registered with the Victorian Electoral Commission before they are eligible to run in the election.
