Farrah Abraham has checked into a rehab centre to be treated for alcohol abuse.

The former 'Teen Mom' star will undergo intensive counselling over the next 10 days at The Lukens Institute, in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. She ''voluntarily'' checked into the clinic late on Sunday night (30.06.13).

Farrah - who released her own sex tape, 'Backdoor Teen Mom', in May - believes the outpatient programme at the luxury clinic will help her stay sober.

She told RadarOnline.com: ''At this time in my life, I need to stay focused on the positive to get through all of the negative that a DUI (driving under the influence) has caused in my life.

''I'm 22 and I want to make better choices and ensure I can recognize when I am putting myself in a bad situation next time.''

In March, Farrah was arrested in Omaha, Nebraska, after allegedly blowing a .147 on the breathalyser - which was nearly twice the state's legal blood alcohol limit of .08 percent. Consequently she was placed on six months probation and ordered to complete an alcohol education course.

Despite passing the course, the director of the programme noted Farrah ''had difficulty making eye contact, was standoffish and was sarcastic when answering the questions asked of her''.

The reality TV star will not stay at the clinic and will be able to live normally day-to-day, however, she will be monitored by a sober companion. The total cost of the treatment comes to $12,000.

Farrah's four-year-old daughter Sophia will be cared for by the adult performer's father Mike while she gets help for her drinking.
