Tv - Family Sues Southland Bosses Over Autopsy Photo
A family has hit executives of U.S. Tv series Southland with a lawsuit for using their relative's autopsy picture without permission.
Hilda Abarca filed legal papers on Monday (28Jul14) at Los Angeles Superior Court on behalf of herself and her daughter Jessica, claiming a photograph of her son Andy Nelson Abarca, who was murdered in 2005, was used in an opening montage of the Tv series.
They insist they had no knowledge of the photograph and never authorised its release, and according to the suit, the inclusion of the image in the show violated their privacy and impacted upon their health, leaving them with "anxiety, anger, hopelessness, fear and distrust of authority".
The family is seeking damages of at least $750 (£440) for each use of the photo, punitive damages and an injunction to prevent it being used in the future.
The police drama, starring Benjamin MCKenzie, ended last year (13) after five series.
