Maleficent - Disney Working On Beauty And The Beast Live-action Remake
Disney bosses are hoping to replicate Maleficent's magic at the box office by transforming animated hit Beauty And The Beast into a live-action adventure.
Angelina Jolie's turn as the Sleeping Beauty villainess is the number one movie on both sides of the Atlantic following its release last week (ends01Jun14) and now the studio has ordered another update, according to Variety.com.
Bill Condon, who directed The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Parts 1 & 2, will helm a new version of classic fairytale Beauty and the Beast, which was a huge box office hit for Disney in animated form back in 1991. The cartoon, which featured the voices of stars including Dame Angela Lansbury and Jerry Orbach, made more than $424 million (£265 million) in ticket sales worldwide.
Beauty and the Beast is the latest animated hit to be given a live-action makeover by Disney - new versions of The Jungle Book and Cinderella are also in the works.
