Singer Demi Lovato has told fans she is at "peace" following her father's funeral on Saturday (29Jun13).

Patrick Lovato passed away last week (begs17Jun13) after a battle with cancer, leaving the Give Your Heart a Break hitmaker devastated, even though the pair had largely been estranged since 2007.

The 54 year old, who divorced Lovato's mother, Dianna De La Garza, in 1994, had been suffering from a mental illness, and the pop star admits she is glad her dad is now in a happier place after attending his burial.

In a post on Twitter.com on Saturday, she wrote, "Today I put my Daddy to rest.... hardest thing I've ever done.. But I know great things will come of this... There's an overwhelming sense of peace knowing my dad is no longer battling his demons anymore and that makes me so happy."

The X Factor judge, who is currently promoting her new single Made In The Usa, previously spoke about her strained relationship with her father in her 2011 ballad For the Love of a Daughter.

The 20 year old, who has bipolar disorder, has since launched the Lovato Treatment Scholarship Program in her dad's honour to help provide financial aid to those suffering from mental illness.
