Sir David Attenborough - David Attenborough Picks Up Honorary Degree
Legendary nature broadcaster Sir David Attenborough was back in the spotlight on Monday (01Jul13) as he accepted an honorary degree in Northern Ireland, a month after undergoing heart surgery.
The Tv veteran was forced to postpone a speaking tour of Australia until later this month (Jul13) after having a pacemaker fitted in early June (13), but he is now back on his feet and has since resumed his public duties.
He headed to Queen's University in Belfast on Monday to pick up an honorary degree for services to science and broadcasting, and Attenborough admitted he was deeply flattered by the award, telling the audience, "My work in television has been devoted over the years to documenting the natural world, and to explaining both its importance to humanity and its vulnerability.
"I am greatly honoured that Queen's University Belfast should have endorsed that message by granting me this distinguished degree."
Oscar-winning filmmaker Terry George was also among the special guests at Queen's University, where he was celebrated for his contributions to the art and entertainment industries.
