Daniel Radcliffe will star in 'Brooklyn Bridge'.

The 24-year-old star will take the lead role as Washington Roebling in the historic drama which follows an inexperienced engineer tasked with overseeing the construction of the iconic landmark when his father passes away.

Director Douglas McGrath will helm the project while Goldcrest productions have been announced to finance, distribute and sell all international rights to the film and they are delighted to have Radcliffe on board.

Pascal Degove of Goldcrest Films said: ''Having Daniel's involvement is a massive coup. Not only is he perfect for the role, but he's consistently proved himself to be one of the very few actors who is genuinely a massive draw for audiences of all ages.''

Radcliffe's character is faced with danger and self-doubt when his work on the landmark - which took 14 years to build, at a cost of $15m and 20 lives - threatens his health and he risks tearing his family apart until he finds an ally in his wife Emily.

'Brooklyn Bridge' is scheduled to begin shooting in August.
