Vivienne Westwood - Dame Vivienne Westwood dedicates award to husband

Dame Vivienne Westwood has dedicated her latest fashion award to her 'phenomenal' husband.

The 73-year-old designer was inducted into the Scottish Fashion Hall of fame at the annual ceremony in London last night (01.09.14) during which she thanked her hubby Andreas Kronthaler as well as the late designer and musician Malcolm McLaren - with whom she has a son, Joseph Corré - for inspiring her love of traditionally Scottish tartan fabrics.

She said: ''I dedicate this award to two men who have been my co-designers.

''Malcolm McLaren, who loved tartan and helped me love tartan. And my husband Andreas - who is a phenomenal man and the one who designed our McAndreas tartan.

Vivienne even joked that her former assistant had wanted to wear the signature fabric to the event.

She explained: ''He would've worn the kilt tonight but he tried it on and it was a bit too small.''

The prestigious title was created for those of have made ''a significant contribution to Scottish fashion and industry''.

According to the awards' founder Tessa Hartmann, Vivienne had been chosen for the accolade as she represents the ''powerful and subversive originality of British fashion''.

She explained: ''Vivienne has had an undeterred loyalty and unparalleled love and passion for Scottish textiles and fabrics, which she has consistently used within her collections throughout the years.

''She personifies the powerful and subversive originality of British fashion and has done more for Scottish textiles than probably any other designer of her generation. Her brand name is synonymous with the tartan pattern and her fascination for this iconic fabric is unrelenting. By using a mix of different tartans, her ensembles explore the rich depth of colour and diversity of the traditional checked pattern that is adorned around the world.''

Other winners of the night included Christopher Kane, who took home Designer of the Year, Jean Campbell, who scooped the Scottish Model of the Year prize and Amy Mcdonald, who was named Scottish Fashion Icon, reports Vogue.co.uk.

David Gandy was honoured with the Founders Award ''for his support of Scottish and British fashion over the last nine years''.
