U.S. comedian Eddie Lawrence has died at the age of 95.

The funnyman passed away in New York City last week (25Mar14). He is believed to have died from natural causes.

Famed for his 'Old Philosopher' character, Lawrence's routine involved him delivering doom-laden monologues which started with a three-minute single which rose into the U.S. charts in 1956.

He voiced a number of cartoon shorts for Paramount, including Abner The Baseball and Swifty and Shorty, which continued to be shown into the 1990s, while he also enjoyed a short stint as a children's Tv host in the 1960s.

Lawrence appeared on shows including The Steve Allen Show and The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson and made cameos in films including The Night They Raided Minsky's, The Wild Party, Blade, and Somebody Killed Her Husband.
