A Chinese thriller saw off competition from Wes Anderson's Grand Budapest Hotel and Angelina Jolie's Difret to take the top prize at the Berlin International Film Festival in Germany over the weekend (15-16Feb14).

The crime drama, titled Bai Ri Yan Huo (Black Coal, Thin Ice), won the event's most coveted trophy, the Golden Bear for Best Picture, as well as the Best Actor prize for its star Liao Fan.

Grand Budapest Hotel, which features a starry cast including Ralph Fiennes, Adrien Brody, Jeff Goldblum and Jude Law, landed the Silver Bear grand jury prize, while Ethiopian movie Difret, which Jolie is producing, won the Audience Award.
