Cheryl Cole is getting her ''Mrs C'' tattoo removed.

The 31-year-old singer has had a consultation with US artist Nikko Hurtado about getting rid of the inking on the back of her neck - which pays tribute to her ex-husband Ashley Cole - following her surprise wedding to Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini, 33, earlier this month.

A source told the Daily Star newspaper: ''Cheryl wants Nikko to fly over soon and remove the pesky tatt.

''It's been on her to-do list for a long time but now she's a married woman again the ''Mrs C'' inking feels even more inappropriate. Of course, the rush to remove it is as much out of respect for her new husband as it is for herself. She wants Jean to know that she has moved on from her past, especially where Ashley's concerned.''

The 'Crazy, Stupid Love' hitmaker is keen for Nikko - who etched Cheryl's huge rose tattoo onto her backside last year - to carry out the procedure as she's built up a bond with him and feels she can trust him.

The source explained: ''Not only did she love the results, but it also meant a lot to her that he never opened his mouth about it. So she knows he will be discreet about this, too, which is very important to her.''

Cheryl - who was married to soccer star Ashley from 2006 until 2010 - tied the knot with Jean-Bernard in a secret ceremony on the Caribbean island of Mustique on July 7 following a whirlwind three-month romance.
