The Libertines - Carl Barat Wants New Libertines Album Ready For 2015

The Libertines rocker Carl Barat is eyeing a 2015 release for the reunited band's first album of new material in 11 years.

The Don't Look Back into the Sun hitmakers returned to the stage after a four-year hiatus last month (Jun14) as they performed a small gig in Scotland, and they followed it up with a big concert at the British Summer Time Hyde Park event in London on Saturday (05Jul14).

Barat has now revealed recording a follow up to their self-titled 2004 release has "always" been the plan, and he hopes to have the tracks ready to go on sale next year (15).

He tells Nme.com, "Next year, it has to be. I don't wanna just go on the road because then you'll get cabin fever and have an epic fallout.

"So yeah, I want to keep something fresh coming in. We just need to find the time."

Bandmate Pete Doherty has echoed Barat's sentiments and claims he would ideally like to set up writing sessions in Europe this autumn (14).

He adds, "For some reason in my head, I'm thinking October, November time. That's what will have to happen (for an album to come to fruition)... I'm well up for it."

The Libertines split in 2004 following a dispute between Barat and his drug-addled bandmate Doherty, but they reunited in 2010 for shows at the U.K.'s Reading and Leeds festivals before parting ways again.

The group's huge comeback at Hyde Park wasn't without incident - the show had to be stopped three times due to fears of crowd crushing and organisers have since confirmed 38 fans were hurt at the event, with eight of those admitted to hospital with minor injuries.
