Denise Richards and Brooke Mueller attended an emergency custody hearing in Los Angeles on Thursday (07.11.13).

The bitter rivals, who were both previously married to Charlie Sheen, were forced to get together by officials from the L.A. County Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), to try to end their battle over Brooke and the 'Anger Management' star's twins, Bob and Max.

A source told gossip website TMZ.com that Dr. Charles Sophy, Medical Director of DCFS, called the meeting after 'Twisted' star Denise, 42, wrote a distressing letter to the DCFS to inform them she could no longer care for the boys, four, due to their aggressive behaviour towards her own daughters with Charlie, Sam, nine, and Lola, eight, and her adopted little girl, Eloise, two.

She also accused Brooke, who has been treated for addiction 21 times, of constantly blocking her ability to seek professional counselling to help the boys.

Charlie, 48, who was ordered in court on Wednesday (06.11.13) to stay at least 200 yards away from Brooke, was allegedly invited to attend the meeting but opted to stay away.

Denise secured temporary custody of the boys in May, after Brooke, 36, was placed under an involuntary psychiatric hold in hospital, and was due to care for them until the end of this year.

Another source told RadarOnline.com: ''The meeting has been called in hopes of convincing Denise to keep the boys for at least another three weeks until Brooke is scheduled to get them back.

''Brooke will be awarded custody of the boys by Christmas, as long as she doesn't relapse. She has been sober for several months. She hasn't had one dirty test.

''She has done everything that has been asked of her by DCFS, so at this point, there is absolutely no reason for Brooke not to get her boys back.''
