Sir David Frost - Broadcaster Sir David Frost dies

Sir David Frost has died aged 74.

The veteran broadcaster passed away last night (31.08.13) following a suspected heart attack while on board the Queen Elizabeth cruise ship, on which he was expected to give a speech to passengers.

A statement released to the BBC read: ''His family are devastated and ask for privacy at this difficult time. A family funeral will be held in the near future and details of a memorial service will be announced in due course.''

Sir David's career encompassed journalism, comedy writing and daytime television presenting.

He was known as brilliant interviewer and his most famous Q&A was with the disgraced former US President Richard Nixon during which he confronted him about the 1972 Watergate scandal.

The story behind the Nixon interviews was turned into a film in 2008, 'Frost/Nixon', which was nominated for five Oscars.

Since news of Frost's passing, numerous journalists, stars and politicians have taken to Twitter to pay their respects to the legendary broadcaster.

British Prime Minister David Cameron tweeted: ''My heart goes out to David Frost's family. He could be - and certainly was with me - both a friend and a fearsome interviewer.''

'This Morning' presenter Eamonn Holmes said: ''Awful news about Sir David Frost. Was with him recently. In Broadcasting ,The Daddy of them all ! Such an influence on me and a true Gent. (sic)''
