Veteran entertainer Bette Midler is fielding song requests from fans to help her decide what to sing at the Academy Awards next month (Mar14).

The Beaches actress and Grammy-winning singer will take centre stage at the biggest night in Hollywood for the first time in her almost 50-year career and although Oscars bosses claimed her performance will be "especially moving", it appears Midler has yet to settle on her set list.

She reached out to her Twitter.com followers for track suggestions on Wednesday (19Feb14), writing, "Now that the news is out, what shall I sing at this years (sic) #Oscars?"

Her question prompted a flurry of responses from devotees, who recommended tunes like 1973 hit Friends, My Knight in Black Leather from her 1979 album Thighs and Whispers, and You Don't Own Me from her 1996 movie The First Wives Club.

Other performers added to the Oscars line-up include U2, Pharrell Williams and Idina Menzel, who will perform their nominated songs.
