Bbc Abandons 3d Tv

With sales of 3D television sets cratering in the U.K. as they have in the U.S., the BBC said today (Friday) that it will end its two-year-old experiment with 3D programming in November with the 50th anniversary edition of Doctor Who. In an interview with the BBC publication Radio Times, Kim Shillinglaw, who led the BBC's 3D pilot program, said that the corporation has concluded that take-up of 3D TV has been disappointing for several reasons. Watching 3D is quite a hassly experience in the home, she said. You have got to find your glasses before switching on the TV. I think when people watch TV they concentrate in a different way. When people go to the cinema they go and are used to doing one thing. In the U.S. last year, DirecTV cut its 3D channel to a part-time schedule, and in June ESPN said that it plans to discontinue its 3D channel by the end of the year.
