Val Mcdermid - Author Val Mcdermid Wins Restraining Order
Crime author Val Mcdermid has won a restraining order against a woman who threw ink over her at a book signing last year (12).
The Wire in the Blood writer, whose books were adapted into a popular British Tv series, was attacked by Sandra Botham, who alleged MCDermid based one of her novels on the real life murder of her husband in 1990.
Botham, 64, from Sunderland, England, was convicted of common assault for throwing ink in MCDermid's face and the author has now won a restraining order to keep her away.
The injunction prevents Botham from contacting MCDermid for an unspecified period of time.
Botham was convicted in July (13) and sentenced on Friday (09Aug13). She has been ordered to serve a 12-month community order and pay £75 (£50) compensation and a $90 (£60) victim surcharge. Botham plans to appeal.
