Alec Baldwin - Alec Baldwin Jokes About Gay Slur Row At San Francisco Event
Alec Baldwin attempted to calm any remaining anger over his alleged homophobic slur row by jokingly proclaiming his love for a male co-worker at a technology conference in San Francisco, California on Wednesday (20Nov13).
The 30 Rock star sparked outrage among gay rights groups last week (ends17Nov13) by reportedly using a homophobic insult to berate a photographer who got too close to his wife Hilaria and their daughter Carmen.
Executives at U.S. channel Msnbc subsequently suspended the actor's talk show Up Late with Alec Baldwin, and the star issued a public apology.
Baldwin returned to the public eye on Wednesday (20Nov13) with an appearance at a technology conference in San Francisco, a city historically at the forefront of gay rights activism, and he drew laughter from the audience by jokingly propositioning a male member of his entourage, telling him, "I want you to be my lover, Matt. I love you, Matt. I love you in that way."
The actor continued by telling the crowd that he had loved some men more than women in his lifetime, though never sexually, and echoed his apology by insisting he never intended to cause offence.
He added, "If in any context in the world that we live in today, if any word is remotely offensive to people, then I'm perfectly willing to learn a different word."
