Aereo Service To Become Available On Game Devices
PlayOn, which allows its subscribers to watch videos on the Internet via wi-fi-enabled gaming devices, said on Tuesday that it has struck a deal with the controversial Barry Diller-backed Aereo service that will also bring broadcast TV stations to those devices -- and to the TV sets to which they may be connected. Those devices include PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, Google TV, Wii, and Wii U. Currently Aereo TV operates in just three cities: New York, Boston, and, beginning today, Atlanta. But it has announced plans to expand to 20 additional cities, mostly in the East and Midwest, by the end of the year, barring a court decision in favor of broadcasters who claim that the service represents an infringement of their copyrighted content. Aereo assigns a tiny remote antenna to each subscriber to pick up broadcast signals and route them to mobile devices and settop boxes via the Internet.
