Teyana Taylor - Adidas Bosses End Deal With Teyana Taylor Following Rihanna Dispute
Adidas executives have decided to end their partnership with singer Teyana Taylor following her controversial online feud with Rihanna.
The rising hip-hop star collaborated with the sports shoe company earlier this year (13), and after her successful debut in February, a second release was expected last Friday (29Nov13) but never made its way into retailers.
Speculation arose that Taylor's recent scuffle with the Diamonds hitmaker was to blame, as the two sniped at each other via Instagram.com and Twitter.com in September (13).
The feud went public after Rihanna posted a video mocking the singer on her Instagram.com page, to which Taylor promptly responded with a barrage of angry messages via Twitter, writing, "Don't play wit (with) me Rihanna f**k all this industry s**t, you & I know each other very well... Y'all could bully everybody else & get away wit (with) that s**t but that s**t ain't gone (sic) work ova (over) here..."
Rihanna later responded, "I refuse to help your career... Not til you pay me. No more free promo. I refuse."
Both women later deleted their tweets and Rihanna changed her home screen page again, but Taylor decided to keep the war alive by replacing her Twitter avatar with an image of a battered Rihanna, which was taken after her domestic abuse assault by ex-boyfriend Chris Brown.
Fans took note of Taylor's profile picture and a petition was launched calling on Adidas bosses to end their endorsement deal with the young rapper.
The petition reads, "This is not about Rihanna, this is about all the Abused Women of the world being Mocked! It Is A Shame that Adidas seems to be endorsing @Teyanataylor!"
Taylor's representative is adamant her collaboration with the company is simply "on hold", but a spokesperson for Adidas has confirmed they have ended the deal.
The rep tells website MadameNoir: "We have ended our relationship with Teyana Taylor and do not have any upcoming product launches with her... Adidas partners with athletes and artists who blend well with our brand values. We evaluate our relationships with partners based on the values we hold at Adidas and we don't condone violence of any kind."
The news of Taylor's broken partnership comes just days after Kanye West signed a $10 million (£6.6 million) deal with Adidas, after leaving his partnership with Nike. Taylor is signed to West's G.O.O.D. Music label.
