The Stone Roses made their triumphant homecoming on the first night of their Manchester Heaton Park weekender last night (June 29). Fans lucky enough to get tickets to the massive event were at first treated to performances by the WAILERS, Primal Scream and The Vaccines, before the newly reunited headliners took to the stage to blast out the hits of old.
Ian Brown, John Squire, MANI and RENI were all present and accounted for, as the band took to the stage to kick off their first string of performances since their 1996 split. The reunion will run on until late August, as the band head to the continent next for a string of performances at festivals before performing heading slots at UK festivals including V Festival and T in the Park.
The band performed hits such as 'I Am The Resurrection,' 'I Wanna Be Adored' and 'She Bangs The Drum' and what Ian Brown performance would be complete without a rant of some sort.
As the show approached its climax, the gloves came off and the singer made a cutting comment on the recent Diamond Jubilee celebrations before the performing the song 'Elizabeth My Dear'. Brown said, "This song's dedicated to those parasites down the road. celebrating 60 years of tyranny!"
