Filmmaker Steven Spielberg is set to be honoured at the National Archives in Washington, D.C this autumn (19Nov13).

The Lincoln director will receive the 2013 Records of Achievement Award, given to an individual whose body of work has boosted awareness of U.S. history through the use of original records.

Spielberg will also be recognised for helping to create what has become the USC Shoah Foundation Institute for Visual History and Education, where audiovisual interviews with survivors and witnesses of the Holocaust and other genocides arepreserved.

Previous recipients of the honour include American author David MCCullough and documentarian Ken Burns.
