Steven Spielberg is to helm drama movie 'War Horse', which is set for a 2011 release.
Steven Spielberg is to direct 'War Horse'.
The 63-year-old filmmaker will begin working on the World War I movie in the later summer or early autumn, with a release date planned of August 10, 2011.
The film tells the tale of a friendship between a boy and a horse which is taken away to fight in World War I.
As well as directing, Spielberg will also produce the film alongside Kathleen Kennedy, Frank Marshall and Revel Guest, Variety reports.
Lee Hall and Richard Curtis will pen the adaptation.
Already a best selling-novel by Michael Morpurgo and a London stage play, the 'War Horse' movie means Spielberg will be putting a number of other projects on hold, including a rumoured Abraham Lincoln biopic.
A Broadway version of the stage show is set to begin next year.
Three-time Oscar winner Spielberg has a number of projects coming up, including 'The Adventures of Tintin: The Secret of the Unicorn' starring Daniel Craig and Simon Pegg, and sci-fi movie 'Interstellar'.
