The series will be based on the director's 2009 film of the same name.

Period medical drama The Knick will be set in New York's Knickerbocker Hospital 113 years ago and the 10-episode series will star Clive Owen. Soderbergh, who recently won acclaim for his work on Liberace biopic Behind the Candelabra, announced he was planning to turn his back on Hollywood and become an artist last year (12).
