By never taking their ludicrous plot seriously, they've made a true guilty pleasure.
Fed up with dead-end Iowa, Ali (Aguilera) heads for Hollywood. Despite having no experience or training, she's sure she can make it as a singer-dancer. After a series of rejections, she stumbles upon the Burlesque Lounge on Sunset, run by jaded diva Tess (Cher) with the help of her long-suffering buddy Sean (Tucci). Ali charms sexy barman Jack (Gigandet) into a barmaid job, while keeping her sights on the stage. And she's also wooed by Marcus (Dane), a developer who's trying to buy the financially strapped club.

A spokesperson for studio boss CLINT CULPEPPER has denied the media mogul split from longtime partner Steven Antin after hiring him to direct BURLESQUE.
Culpepper is president of Screen Gems, a subsidiary of Sony Pictures, and reportedly asked his boyfriend of 20 years to write and helm the movie musical, starring Christina Aguilera and Cher.
According to New York Post gossip column PageSix, the pair's relationship broke down following a series of bitter rows while shooting the film.
A source tells the publication, "Steven moved out of their Hollywood mansion and has been living at the Sunset Tower Hotel since the end of October. He has been telling people it is over with Clint. They've broken up before and always got back together. Some friends expect them to reconcile, but this time Steven is saying things are different. Working together was intense."

Ali is a girl who's desperate to break away from her small-town life. Seeking a new start she buys a one way ticket to LA and lands a job waitressing at a club called The Burlesque Lounge, the club owner and headline act is a lady called Tess, though she was willing to give Ali a break by offering her the cocktail waitress job, all Ali wants to do is perform on stage. Enamoured by the lavish and flamboyant costumes and striking choreography Ali is sure she would be a perfect addition to their troupe. Tess doesn't see her potential but a few other of the club workers know Ali's secret; she can sing - a small girl with a big voice.

As if this wasn't enough, there's another plotline running through the movie. To get to Los Angeles in the first place, one of the women, Cici (Sofía Vergara), offers to drive her friend's boyfriend's car from Miami to Hollywood, where it is to be delivered to two guys in a parking lot. Sure enough, the two guys turn out to be criminals of some unspecified sort who get angry when they can't find a bag of cash that was stashed in the car. The FBI gets thrown into the mix and, apparently, fun and laughs are supposed to ensue.
