The 80s icon suffered a heart attack while away in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, and though he was quickly rushed to a nearby hospital, it was confirmed that he had regretfully passed away later on in the day. It wasn't the first time he had experienced health issues recently though, having previously been hospitalised in Wales following breathing difficulties back in December 2014.

'He will be remembered as a hard-working, very amusing and lovable individual who always was at the forefront of fashion trends', his agent Pete Bassett declared in a statement after the announcement of his death. 'We understood that he had certain health problems but nothing we knew was life threatening. His friends and family are totally shocked, we had no idea anything like this was likely to happen.'

Strange is known for his androgynous style and work with the 80s pop band Visage, who are best known for their hit single 'Fade to Grey'. They made a bit of a comeback in recent years with 2014's release of 'Orchestral'; a 'Best Of' collection of re-mastered tracks; not to mention their comeback album after nearly 30 years, 2013's 'Hearts and Knives'. 'Up until last year he was putting together a book of fashion styles based on the New Romantic movement and [his death] comes as a great shock', Bassett added in his statement.

Among those offering tributes to Strange were fellow 80s popstar Boy George who admitted he was 'heartbroken' by his friend's passing, and Duran Duran's Simon Le Bon who dubbed him the 'leading edge of New Romantic'. Gary Kemp of Spandau Ballet admitted the band were 'in tears' and confessed, 'Without him we would never have been here'. The subsequently dedicated their Sanremo Music Festival show to their deceased friend.
