Steve Guttenberg, the American comedy actor best known for playing 'Carey Mahoney' in Police Academy, has paid tribute to his co-star Bubba Smith, who was found dead in his Los Angeles home on Wednesday aged 66. (3rd August 2011), reports
Guttenberg, a close friend of the Nfl star who played 'Hightower' in the comedy franchise, said, "Bubba was my friend. His generosity was far larger than his physical stature". He added, "Only his gift for caring about his friends and family could compare with his achievements on the football field, film and television. He also laughed like no other". Although the cause of death remains unclear, the Los Angeles County coroner's office confirmed, "There is no indication of anything other than natural death". In the cult comedy franchise, Guttenberg played a repeat offender who was forced to join the police academy as punishment for his crimes. He was joined by a group of other misfits, including the trigger happy Sgt Eugene Tackleberry, sound effects expert Larvell Jones, and Bubba Smith's towering 'Hightower'.
Since his time on the Police Academy franchise, Steve Guttenberg has starred in a number of family comedy flicks, such as 'Short Circuit' and '3 Men and a Baby'. He recently completed filming the horror movie 'Eldorado' with Peter O'Toole and MICHAEL MADSEN.
