Short Circuit Review

Weak
I am sure that, back in the mid-1980s, I wasn't alone in believing that we were just a lightning strike away from a robot becoming sentient. I probably wasn't alone in believing Fisher Stevens was a native-born Indian, too, but that's another matter.

You can thank Short Circuit for all of this. Massively successful and influential in its era, it's a story of an evil military corporation vs. one man. Or rather, one robot who thinks he's a man: The now-infamous Number 5.

High Spirits Review

Bad
Steve Guttenberg falls in love with a ghost. Sounds about right.

The Boys From Brazil Review

Excellent
A fun curiosity of a movie, from the end of the career of both Peck and Olivier (and Mason, for that matter... okay, and Steve Guttenberg, too). Telling the mysterious tale of Josef Mengele (Peck), who is living in Paraguay in the late 1970s, trying to rebuild the Third Reich, The Boys from Brazil takes a long time to get to its big secret. When you do finally get there, it's a mixture of ahhhhh and huh? that makes the film mostly worthwhile. Have a bit of a laugh at the scientific silliness that the movie revolves around, too.

Diner Review

Excellent
Six guys try to make sense of their lives before one of them is married. But why would anyone want to marry Steve Guttenberg (in the only good role of his life, I think)? Witty and fun.

Police Academy Review

Good
You know how people talk about a movie being so bad it's good? Police Academy is that movie.

No, it is that movie. It embodies the badness-goodness paradox so fully that it spawned six sequels and two TV series (one animated)... so far.
