Fans of animated tale 'Despicable Me' will have to wait three years for the third instalment.
'Despicable Me 3' has been scheduled for release on June 30, 2017.
Fans of loveable reformed villain Gru, voiced by Steve Carell, will have to wait three years for the next instalment of the franchise, Universal Pictures announced on Wednesday (15.01.14).
The first family-friendly film, which was released in 2010, made $543 million worldwide, but the 2013 sequel has grossed $935.8 million worldwide since it opened last summer, gaining a cult following amongst children and adults alike.
The movies follow evil genius Gru and his adorable minions' adventures and his endeavours to be a good father to his three adoptive children.
Meanwhile, a 'Despicable Me' spin-off is already in the works called 'Minions'. Starring Sandra Bullock, the movie will be centred around the history of the yellow creatures and follow their journey in the 1960s to find a new evil master.
Universal also announced two new releases for the coming years, 'Dr. Seuss' How The Grinch Stole Christmas' for November 17, 2017, and an untitled Illumination Entertainment project for December 21, 2016.
According to Variety, the untitled film is an animated comedy about courage, competition and carrying a tune. It will be written and directed by 'The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy' helmer Garth Jennings and produced by Meledandri and Healy.
