Streaming service Netflix has announced it is developing five children's shows including new versions of the kids' classics Inspector Gadget and Danger Mouse. It's part of a move from the service to increase its high quality children's programming.

Inspector Gadget follows the trials of a bumbling bionic detective while Danger Mouse will feature the rodent superspy who became one of the most popular animated characters of the 1980s. Elsewhere, Some Assembly Required is a live-action show about a kid toy inventor, Bottersnikes & Gumbles is based on the Australian book series of the same name and Super 4 will be a CGI-animated series inspired by Playmobil toys.

"We've seen great characters and rich storytelling work for a global audience time and time again," said Erik Barmack, Netflix's VP of global independent content. "That's why we're proud to be working with some of the industry's best producers and animators on these shows, and we can't wait for kids and families all over the world to get to know these stories."

The new version of Danger Mouse will debut in the spring of 2016, featuring the voice of Stephen Fry as Colonel K. It follows Danger Mouse as he battles villains with the help of his hapless hamster sidekick Penfold. 

Inspector Gadget will premiere on March 27 and follows the detective as he battles to stop Dr Claw, who has reactivated his global crime syndicate, MAD.

Some Assembly Required is slated for release in the summer and  follows the owner of Knickknack Toys, who hires a group of friends from school to help him create awesome new toys.

Bottersnikes & Gumbles is set to debut in the spring of 2016 an follows three young Gumbles as they play while avoiding getting tin-canned by their grumpy neighbors.

Super 4 follows four characters as they explore the distinct islands of their planet, fight bad guys and have plenty of fun along the way.
