The latest Star Trek movie has been beamed to the top of the U.K. box office, toppling the might of Iron Man 3.

J.J. Abrams' Star Trek Into Darkness, starring Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto and Benedict Cumberbatch, stunned the competition to rake in $13 million (£8.43 million) over the weekend (10-12May13).

It knocked Robert Downey, Jr.'s Iron Man 3 into second place after two weeks at the top, with the latest Marvel movie grossing $4.9 million (£3.18 million) in ticket sales.

U.S. coming of age comedy 21 and Over was in at number three with $899,000 (£580,000), kids' movie All Stars was at number four with $759,000 (£490,000), and hit animation The Croods stayed in the top five with $608,000 (£380,000), two months after it was released.
