Star Trek thespian Patrick Stewart is glad that fame came calling so late in his life - because his younger self would have struggled to handle it.

The sci-fi star, now 62, was 46 when he landed the life-changing role of JEAN-LUC PICARD in the long-running series, and had previously just appeared in a number of TV movies.

Stewart says, "I'm both grateful and a little wistful. I'm perhaps envious of what lies ahead of young actors, but I'm grateful that the kind of success I had came when it did.

"I was just about well-balanced enough for it not to be overwhelming, and not to believe the publicity. That's the biggest danger, you see: believing that you really are more important than everyone else. We're not, you know. We're just actors."
