Pharrell Williams is to team up with director Spike Lee for the streaming version of his upcoming concert at the Apollo Theater on the 3rd June. The concert will be part of American Express Unstaged, a collaboration between YouTube and Vevo, the 14th instalment of a series in which performers and directors team up for a unique staged performance.

"Pharrell and I have been friends for years," Mr. Lee said in an interview, "and we've talked about working together, and now it's coming to fruition and I'm happy about that - we both are." Of the very special New York venue, Lee added "I think it was a great choice [...] It's one of the great places for music in the world, when you think of all the people who've come across the stage."

"And I hope people will watch, because Pharrell is a great, great talent. He's been making great music for years, and some people know it and some didn't, but now people can put the music with the face and the hat," he continued.

On the subject of his planned direction for the show, the filmmaker was coy: "We shot stuff, but I'm not going to tell you everything we're going to do," Lee said. "Why would I do that? Why do we always have to know every little thing that's going to happen, in advance? What I will tell you is that there will be some good surprises."

Pharrell Will Offer Fans A Unique, Multi-Platform Concert Experience.

There are plans to make the concert available on numerous platforms: from the 6th June, Vevo will make selections from the show available on its mobile app and viewers will be able to unlock backstage material through Twitter and will have be presented with a choice of camera angles, according to the NY Times.

The concert will be streamed live at 9 p.m. at amexunstaged.com, with a looped repeat.
