Further sequels to the massively successful SPIDER-MAN franchise may have to be scrapped, according to a new report.

Investigative website THE DRUDGE REPORT reveals that MARVEL CHARACTERS INC is going to court in an attempt to revoke Japanese giant Sony's Spider-Man licence, accusing them of hi-jacking it in its merchandising.

In papers revealed by MATT DRUDGE, Marvel said Sony should not continue advertising and marketing Spider-Man as a Sony character and also feels Sony has wrongfully withheld several millions of dollars it is owed.

The sequel to the 2002 hit film is set for release in July 2004.
