Ice Age 4 Continental Drift got off to a spectacular start overseas, where it debuted in 34 markets, in advance of its domestic opening on July 14. The animated feature collected $78 million in just 34 markets, with $13.78 million of that amount coming from Mexico alone and another $11.8 million coming from France, which represented the biggest opening of the year in that country. The strong opening was even more impressive given the weekend finals of Euro 2012, the international soccer championship series. The previous Ice Age film, Dawn of the Dinosaurs, holds the record as the highest-grossing animated film ever overseas, where it earned $690 million in 2009. Also making a solid foreign debut was The Amazing SPIDER-MAN , which raked in $50.2 million mostly in Asian countries. In South Korea, where it took in $13.4 million, it beat out the opens of Spider-Man 3 and this year's The Avengers.
