Spandau Ballet star Gary Kemp has taken aim at Simon Cowell's slew of reality shows - insisting talent searches such as The X Factor and American Idol are bad for the music industry.
The singer enjoyed huge success with the Gold hitmakers in the 1980s, storming the U.K. charts and appearing on many TV music programmes, including cult British show Top Of The Pops.
Kemp has watched the onslaught of talent TV series in recent years with interest, and is baffled at how dominant they have become on our screens.
And the 49 year old has hit out at Cowell, who has spearheaded a number of the shows - because he hates the music mogul's onscreen persona.
He says, "Everyone used to know what was on and about music because of Top Of The Pops, now programmes are just about the youth.
"I suppose The X Factor has taken over from Top Of The Pops, but I'm not a fan. That's because I don't like Simon Cowell's TV personality. I can't stand it. I don't know him, it's just what I've seen on TV."
