Feig was speaking at the South by Southwest Festival where his new comedy 'Spy' is showing.
Paul Feig, the director of the upcoming all female Ghostbusters reboot has been at SXSW this weekend, showing his latest offering Spy starring Melissa McCarthy. But when the director took some time out to speak to Vanity Fair his attentions quickly moved to the problems women still face in Hollywood, something which he now has first hand experience with thanks to Ghostbusters.
Paul Feig will direct the upcoming Ghostbusters reboot
“The Internet is really funny – I love it, but I hate it at the same time,” Feig told the magazine. “The first wave when you make an announcement like that is overwhelmingly positive. Everyone’s so happy and you’re like, ‘This is great.’ Then comes the second wave and you’re like, Oh my God. Some of the most vile, misogynistic shit I’ve ever seen in my life.”
As a director, Ryan Gosling might be great. But as an actor, he will always and forever be remembered for "Hey, girl."
Last year, Ryan Gosling completed his directorial debut Lost River and, just like most of the things Ryan Gosling does, it's a little bit odd and a little bit confusing. The film is screening at SXSW this weekend, a second chance at a premiere, after the not-so-warm welcome it received at Cannes.
Did Gosling turn things around at SXSW?
The film is also set for a theatrical and VOD release next month, so the freak-friendly atmosphere at South by Southwest Austin should be the perfect space to gather some more favourable reviews. Unfortunately for Gosling, even among the hipster, indie, counter-cultural crowd, his reputation apparently precedes him.

Lady Gaga's Summerfest show has sold over 14,000 tickets.
Live Nation executive Arthur Fogel says rumors of poor ticket sales for Lady GaGa's Summerfest headlining show are "ridiculous", and that Mother Monster is all set for a triumphant summer show at the Marcus Amphitheater in Milwaukee.
"The run with Gaga over the last two tours has been incredibly successful, and this one is shaping up no differently," Fogel, chairman of the company's global touring division, producers of Gaga's forthcoming artRave: The ARTPOP Ball tour, told Billboard's Ray Waddell.
Lady Gaga vs Demi Lovato, Who's Right In the Vomit War?
In her perennial quest to push boundaries that often don’t need pushing, Lady GaGa let ‘vomit artist’, Millie Brown, do her thing all over her at SXSW festival on March 13. The singer foresaw the backlash, and now says she’s not surprised by people’s reactions.
"I guess we weren't completely surprised. Millie and I know that not everybody's going to love that performance," the 27-year-old singer told "Today" anchor Savannah Guthrie yesterday morning (March 21). "But we both really believe in artistic expression and strong identities," she continued.

New York indie two-piece Ghost Beach are set to unveil 'Blonde' in the UK after recent Nettwerk Records deal.
Ghost Beach are set to bring some incredibly catchy indie-pop vibes to the UK with the release of their much-anticipated debut album 'Blonde'.
The New York duo formed in 2012 and immediately caused an online buzz with their first releases, including their self-titled debut EP and their 'Modern Tongues' EP. Since then, they have topped the Hype Machine charts with every single they've released so far and, to be quite honest, it doesn't look like that personal best is going to weaken any time soon.
The rapper was accused of inciting crowds to push past security.
South by South West, Austin’s week long music and film festival was going remarkably smoothly this year. That is until Tyler, The Creator (real name Tyler Gregory Okonma) incited what has been deemed a riot by police officials at his SXSW. Okonma, who was later arrested in relation to the incident, reportedly a large crowd of fans at the annual music conference and festival to push their way past venue employees into a show that was already at full capacity.
Tyler, the Creator's SXSW show on Saturday was on the brink of violence.
According to the Associated Press, police at the scene reported witnessing the rapper yell at the fans outside to push their way past security on a couple of occasions. The crowd was reportedly on the brink of violence, so much so that a bartender had to protect a woman from from injury from the surging mob. Police released video evidence of the event, which shows scores of fans bursting through a gate at the Scoot Inn in downtown Austin. Following the incident, Okonma has been arrested at the Austin-Bergstrom Airport. His bail was set at $3,500 and, if convicted, the rapper faces a year in jail, as well as a $4,000 fine.
Lady Gaga's controversial performance at the South by Southwest music festival has prompted Demi Lovato to speak out about eating disorders. Gaga was deliberately vomited on whilst performing 'Swine', an act which Lovato believes "glamorises" eating disorders.
Lady Gaga was vomited on whilst performing on Thursday.
Gaga appeared at Austin music festival and, as a planned part of her act, was vomited on by a professional vomit painter. The painter in question, Millie Brown, intentionally puked up a green slimy substance on Gaga whilst the 27-year-old was performing 'Swine'.

Gaga opens up on her annus horribilis
Lady GaGa’s much anticipated SXSW keynote saw the singer detail her difficult year, which comprised a mediocre response to her album Artpop, a split from her management, a nasty hip injury followed by surgery. But she vowed to never change, and would rather quit pop than compromise.
Lady Gaga gave a candid keynote at SXSW
“I refuse to compromise and allow my talents to be monetized to the point that I don’t want to be here anymore. I will stop, I will quit, I will retire from the commercial market if I have to do something other than be myself because if I can’t be myself in this moment than everything I have said to my friends since the beginning will be a total lie,” she said in an hour-long question-and-answer session.

You can always count on Gaga to bring the theatrics.
Lady GaGa brought some serious 2008 nostalgia to her SXSW gig on Thursday night. Her show included highlights like fake vomit, a roasting spit and some good old-fashioned mechanical bull riding. It’s not cliché, it’s classic. If you’re wondering how it all ties together, imagine Gaga being wheeled out on a huge roasting spit, from which she sang her first song, Aura. Apparently this time it wasn’t some thinly veiled metaphor about celebrity culture, just a nod to Texas’ infamous BBQ culture.
Gaga was back to classic form for her show at the Austin-based festival.
Clad in black lingerie and fishnets, Gaga addressed the crowd, saying: "I've been having such a good time all week. I haven't showered. I've been drinking all week. And eating."
Pop superstar Lady Gaga was attending a gig by Semi Precious Weapons just streets away when the crash happened and she also appeared to reference the tragedy in a post on Twitter, writing, "All my love to music lovers and fans, stay safe tonight we love you." - Austin, Texas - Thursday 13th March 2014
The Brit rockers shared new songs from their upcoming 'Ghost Stories' album.
Last night, Coldplay took to the stage at Texas' South by Southwest Festival where they debuted new material from forthcoming album Ghost Stories alongside well-worn favourites. Support acts London Grammar and Imagine Dragons were big enough names for the crowd to pick out songs from each that they recognised but the former had the air of "evidently nervous musicians still working out how to feel comfortable commanding an audience," according to The Guardian's Tim Jonze.
Coldplay Played A Triumphant Comeback Show At SXSW Last Night In Austin, Texas.
Whereas Imagine Dragons "threw the kitchen sink at the audience in an attempt to make that vital emotional connection." Luckily for Coldplay, such effects come almost too naturally to the British rockers who seem to soundtrack every wedding first dance, graduation party, or Olympic triumph.

The Public Assembly Code Enforcement - or PACE team - is patrolling the SXSW festival in Austin, Texas to make sure parties and events don't get out of hand. The team is on the lookout for problems including overcrowding, permitting issues or even the safety of temporary structures at South by Southwest.
"We usually respond to requests from other agencies or citizens about things that they feel might be unsafe," Lt. Vincent Hernandez with the Austin Police Department, who also heads up PACE told Kxan,"[The] Public Assembly Code Enforcement Team will be out for the whole duration 9of South by Southwest). We're working a lot of hours, putting in a lot of hours. But again, it's for the safety of the party-goers."

Torres lands in Austin, Texas in the midst of SXSW for the second year in a row.
With SXSW in full swing, Brooklyn via Nashville singer Torres gears up to perform her festival showcases in a move that she describes as both 'exciting' and 'hard work'.
Today (March 11th 2014) marks Torres' return to SXSW after a successful run at 2013's event. She'll be performing at The Javelina as part of Riot Act Media's official showcase, before hitting the Brooklyn Vegan Day Party at Red 7 on Thursday (March 13th) and playing for MISRA Records' official showcase on Friday at Lamberts. 'It's super DIY; you're sweating, you smell awful and you're carrying all of your heavy gear by hand from venue to venue', Torres explains about the SXSW set up. 'Then you play a quick set with no soundcheck and you strip it back down and go to your next one. I think that every musician should have to do that at some point. Because how else are you going to earn your stripes?'

What to expect from Jon Favreau's food truck movie 'Chef':
Jon Favreau has gone back to his comedy roots with new movie ‘Chef’ which premiered at SXSW this weekend. Mixing the world’s growing obsession with food and rockstar chefs with an all-star cast, Favreau has already won rave reviews for the film and his return to comedy. So what can we expect from a movie that features food trucks and Scarlett Johansson?
Jon Favreau in 'Chef'
Jon Favreau has gone from comedy actor and writer, to being the director of one of the biggest comic book franchise films of all time, ‘Iron Man’, to walking away from it to direct a movie about a food truck chef. Reckless career move? You might have though so, but Favreau’s latest offering has earned him the favour of critics after its SXSW premiere.

The 26 year-old actor admits to enjoy seeing his former 'High School Musical' co-stars because "we never forget a single moment of that experience."
It has been a long time since Zac Efron entertained Disney audiences in the 'High School Musical' trilogy, 6 years ago in fact.
But that doesn't mean the 26 year-old has forgotten what made him into a star.
Efron, who has since taken on much more serious roles such as 'Parkland' and 'The Lucky One', has confirmed that he is definitely keen on a reunion with his former 'High School Musical' cast mates.

Four days into the conference, there's already a lot to be excited about.
For those who care about films in the slightest, South by Southwest is the place to be this week. The conference, which runs March 7th through March 16th in Austin, Texas, is the place for enthusiasts to see the latest films, get album previews and generally have tons of fun. So, four days into SXSW, what are the highlights?
The VM cast was out in full force at SXSW.
First of all, there was Seth Rogen and Zac Efron’s Neighbors, which pits Rogen against Efron in a battle for dominance over a suburban street. In this comedy, directed by Nicholas Stoller from a script by Andrew J. Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, Rogen plays one half of a newly married couple, who are just settling into their cozy suburban nest. Efron and his band of frat boys, however, are there to ruin everything. According to THR, Neighbors got big laughs at its Paramount Theater premiere, so it might be one to look out for later in the year.
